When India became independent in 1947, very few English men and women stayed on in India. Almost everyone packed up and returned to England. But many Anglo-Indians fell between the cracks. Many became Indian citizens and prospered. But a tiny community - THE SPARROWS OF TOLLYGUNGE - were left behind in legal limbo, dreaming of an England they had never seen, except in their imaginations.
