Calcutta (Kolkata) consists of nine pieces that all originally aired on NPR's All Things Considered and Morning/Weekend Editions between 1990 and 2000. The first CD is devoted to five pieces about Kolkata or Calcutta, which had celebrated its 300th anniversary in 1989. The second CD features portraits of two men - the late Satyajit Ray and Shantidev Ghosh who were both in turn linked to Rabindranath Tagore, the intellectual and artistic colossus who even today dominates Bengali culture.
