The FIS and Algeria

In late 1991, the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) was on the verge of winning the second round of parliamentary elections in Algeria. A few says before the polling day, the army stepped in and canceled the elections. Several yers of savage civil war followed. We shall never know if the FIS would have respected the rules of democracy if they had won.
