Should Taxpayers Support Muslim Schools in Britain?
One particularly sensitive area was and remains education. Traditionally, Catholics and Jews have been free to attend their own denominational schools which are subsidized by the government. Many Muslim parents now want state support for private Islamic Schools, and especially for single sex girls' schools. The government has turned down their requests, claiming such schools would unfairly disadvantage and segregate Muslim girls from the rest of British society. In this report we visit two very different schools in Bradford and Leicester - the former a private Islamic schools for girls, the latter a state-run comprehensive, but run be a committed muslim and with an overwhelmingly Muslim student body.
