The whole area had once been a prosperous kingdom. Gour was the fifteenth century London of Bengal. Now it is deserted and in ruin. The river moved away overnight, leaving Gour high and dry, much like Jahngira Island at Sultanganj in Bihar. But if the river moved away it can also return, someday.
