Living Islam is a 4 year project looking at how ordinary Muslims around the world live.
Living Islam
examines Muslim ideas and practices in three critical areas:
1. Are there valid Islamic forms of democracy?
2. How is Islam dealing with gender equality?
3. How does Islam handle modernity? Is there an Islamic theory of modernity?
Does modernisation create dilemmas of identity for Muslims?
This project will examine these themes through case studies of communities in the US, Western Europe, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon, Jordan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
This project
was conceived and recorded before Sept 11, 2001.
This project was funded by the Ford Foundation & the National Endowment for the Humanities
